IASL Auction

IASL2016 attendees – 28 July 2016

As you make plans to attend IASL2016 in Tokyo, please add “items for the Auctions” to your packing list.

At every IASL Annual Conference, all proceeds from the Pay & Take, Silent Auctions, and Grand Auction go into Award Funds which support school libraries and librarians throughout the world.

You can help by bringing things for the Auctions, like interesting candies and foods, fancy bookmarks, small toys and games, and decorative items, especially book-themed ones.  Also, think about what tourists like to buy when they visit your region – what may seem commonplace to you is fascinating to conference attendees from other countries.

Please remember that we’re all traveling, so items that are lightweight, easily packable, and not too fragile will be best.

You can also help by ‘shopping’ the Auctions at the Conference for interesting items and gifts.

The Pay & Take table has assorted items for a small price, with more items added daily – you can take the item when you pay for it.

The Silent Auctions have many items available each day, with ongoing bids written on paper – at the end of the day, the highest bidder wins each item so be sure to check back during the day, in case someone outbids you.

The most unique and valuable items donated are reserved for the Grand Auction which is conducted live during the Gala Dinner – the bidding is loud and lively as an experienced auctioneer encourages bidders to support IASL’s outreach efforts with their wallets!

This year, four Award funds have been selected to receive the Auction proceeds:

L. Anne Clyde Memorial Research Award,
Margot Nilson Memorial Award in Literature for Young People,
Takeshi Murofushi Research Award, and
IASL Books for Children Project.

You can find out more about each Award by clicking on its link to IASL website.

IASL2016 attendees about Book Display – 1 August 2016

A highlight of each year’s Annual Conference is the Children’s Book Display of books brought by IASL members from all over the world: http://iasl-online.org/awards/bookexhibit.html

Please select a new children’s or young adult book that represents your culture, region, or country to bring to Tokyo. It can be in any language or even have no words at all!

At the IASL 2016 registration area, you will be able to write your name on a ‘book plate’ to go inside your donated book.

All books will be displayed in the Exhibits area, so be sure to visit and see the wonderful collection which will be donated to a deserving school in our host country.

Thank you for supporting this annual effort to share the best of our culture and children’s literature! Sponsored by IASL Children’s and Young Adult Literature Special Interest Group.
